I’m not racist, but…

Because it’s good to get a daily dose of how depressing humanity can be. Protip: If you’re about to say “I’m not racist, but-” just stop talking. And here’s one of my favorite relevant videos:

I am perfectly comfortable with pointing out that they’re not just racist, but in some cases, double racist.

I’m not racist but [racist blather], and I don’t hate women but [hating on women].  Also, [something about the gays], not that there’s anything wrong with being gay.  Oh, and [full on rant about foreigners, muslims, people who aren’t christian, and some random thing about people from Indiana].

Oh, and you may have broken the notracistbut server.  “Our servers are over capacity and certain pages may be temporarily unavailable. We’re incredibly sorry for the inconvenience.”

Actually, when someone says “I’m not racist/sexist/etc., but”, I hear nothing but “I’m going to say something incredibly racist/sexist/etc. but I don’t want to be judged for it, even though it’s 100% racist/sexist/etc., ok, pleeeeeaaaaase? “. What they try to pass as an excuse is, in fact, a huge red flag!

Yeah.  If true, that disclaimer is unnecessary.  If not true, it is dishonest.

I’m not a racist, but I DO judge you on building up your buffer.  My judgement?  You’re pretty clever for a human.

You’ve completely annihilated their servers and now nobody can look at the site.Nice job breaking it, hero.

“DON’T GET ME WRONG I’M NOT 100% racist”Careful distinction. He didn’t say that he was “100% not racist”, he said he was “not 100% racist”.Presumably this is because it’s pretty hard for toenails to be racist. I bet he’s working on that one, though.

It’s either blatantly false or trivially true; either way it’s patently unnecessary.I like modifiers.

i call these people “not-a-racists”. sometimes also “dad racism”, which may be unfair to dads, but, well, there ya go.

OK, I really dislike that video.  Telling someone that something they said *sounds* racist is going to evoke the same emotional response as just calling them a racist.  Like:”I think what you just said sounded like it maybe could be construed as racist by some people under certain circumstances.””But I’m not one.”I mean, good luck with that and stuff, but if you’re going to tell someone their beliefs fall under Things You Share In Common With Bad People they’re just not going to be immediately super-thrilled.  Doesn’t mean calling them out isn’t totally worth it.  Doesn’t mean they’re not going to do some introspection later when they’re feeling less hurt.  But there’s not an actual formula to make that conversation less uncomfortable.

Food and hygiene … what heresy is this?Take this guy for example: http://www.goblinscomic.com/te…His marathon could’ve lasted for days, weeks even, and there was no idle talk of attent to personal needs and not-degrading-into-a-filthy-mass-of-working-flesh around.
